Orchard Box

The box is a recycled carpenters box sourced through Men in Sheds St Thomas. I used a similar box for Stonehouse Seedstore. It will contain intimate and detailed artworks, models, objects and samples which relate to orchards and will form the basis of informal conversations and sharing of information and ideas relating to the Exe river orchard at community events in Exwick & St Thomas in Autumn 2017. The box includes a new creative collaboration with Amy Shelton focusing on orchard pollinators and blossom flowers.

I wanted to work with Amy to some of the blossoms of the orchard and hedgerow varieties that would form part of the route, such an ephemeral part of the annual growing cycle and such a vital essence of a healthy ecosystem. Amy’s work is about collecitng pressed flower samples to tell the story of pollinator/ecoystems relationships.

We visited a number of regional orchard to collect samples and Amy has been creating slides to be stored and exhibited in the Box.

I have also been creating other content for the box including drawing of orchard pollinators

and creating a Diorama of models for the box.

I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together and then to be added to at events.
